Tuition

I have been privately teaching for almost two decades, for a range of different ages and abilities on Electric Bass and Electric Guitar. I can help also with Music Technology and Music Theory. I am also currently the Strand Leader for Music Language at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music over in Gateshead.

Focusing on listening before playing, using a range of aural training, my students are keen to learn from my teaching methods despite the stigma attached to more traditional aural exercises. We can work to any syllabus required but I have also obtained great results from students who have voiced their dislike for the graded system.
In the year of 2014, two of my Bass Guitar students were accepted onto the prestigious RNCM B.Mus (Hons) Popular Music course, of which there are only around 7 successful applicants a year.
In the year of 2018, another student was accepted to the same competitive course.
I have also helped many students pass mandatory Music Theory grades required for higher education, including a 100% pass mark.
I am Enahnced CRB checked, and currently teaching from my home studio in North Shields, near Newcastle Upon Tyne. If you’re a total beginner, or require guidance on taking your next steps in Music, please contact me below.

Fantastic guitar teacher. Covers everything from beginner basics to advanced stuff, and got me playing a full song in 3 lessons from not picking up a guitar! I’m on lesson 5 and we are halfway through another song that has bar chords and all that!Friendly fella and very patient. Would highly recommend to anyone who is wanting to get a few songs under their belt or is struggling with any chords/ techniques.A+++

Great tutor, very flexible, fun and informative. I’ve found Liam to be ideally suited to helping me learn to play the electric guitar and bass whilst also juggling a lot of other commitments. I would highly recommend Liam!

Liam is a brilliant producer and engineer, having worked on three of our records now. He’s technically gifted and trained in music production but more importantly he really understands music and musicians because he is one. He’s excellent at getting the best out of our tracks, is competitively priced and is a calming influence who doesn’t mind sharing his views when needed. Listen to our albums on Spotify or Apple/Amazon to see the high quality of his work. He produced “Yee Ha with the Ree-Vahs!” and “Man Overboard”. We couldn’t wait to work with him on our new album “The Mercy Ship” which is out in 2020.

First class teacher! For years I struggled to teach myself guitar. As someone who has ADHD, focus has been a real obstacle when it comes to learning. But Liam managed to teach me and keep me focused in a professional yet relaxed manor. Worth every penny.

Liam has a fantastic teaching style - laid back and focused on what you want to learn, without shying away from introducing new styles and concepts. My bass playing has come on loads since starting lessons, and because he places a lot of focus on musicianship, so has my confidence in improvising, composing and playing in groups. Would thoroughly recommend if you want to improve as both an instrumentalist and as a musician more generally.

Liam is not only a quality teacher but also a sound guy. He has a great balance between keeping learning fun and also challenging you to understand music more. Would recommend to anyone. I started with zero knowledge or experience and Liam has helped me to achieve a long lasting ambition of playing guitar.

I cannot recommend Liam highly enough!I started having Bass Guitar lessons with Liam in 2016, having played casually for quite a few years but really wanting to step up my game. I've had a few teachers over the years and Liam is one of the few who has really helped me to develop not only as a bassist, but as a musician generally.Liam was great at catering to my goals as a learning musician, but he also continually nudged me in directions I wouldn't necessarily have thought to pursue otherwise (new styles of music/playing, new theory ideas, techniques etc.), and I'm a much better player for it now! He's also great at explaining and demonstrating music theory, that dreaded topic for many of us. I'd tried many times before to learn to read music, to little to no avail, but within a couple of months of Liam's clear teaching of it, I was making huge inroads. Vitally, he was also great at always making sure the theory stuff was applied in practice, by studying some of my favourite songs (as well as some of his!). That was a massive help because it really cemented the theory concepts whilst actually playing music I enjoyed - mint. With the help of Liam's lessons, I've managed to get my Grade 8 in bass guitar and Grade 5 Theory, and am now going to study at the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester in September, something I wouldn’t have even considered a viable option 3 years ago!(I’ve also more recently had guitar lessons with Liam as well, and I can safely say that all of the above applies to those lessons as well - clear, effective and fun)All in all you can’t go wrong here. Liam’s lessons have been invaluable for me and I would 100% recommend you give him a shout 🙂
